Raising a dragon
Dragon Mounts has eight breeds. An egg’s habitat can influence its breed before hatching. This does not transform a grown dragon.
Start with an egg
Section titled “Start with an egg”The ordinary mod egg is the Dragon Mounts egg. It is a different item from the vanilla Ender Dragon egg. Trading, gifting and breeding let you obtain an egg from other players.
Give the egg a protected area with room for a growing dragon. Prepare the habitat before starting hatching; inspect the egg as it adapts. Interact with an empty hand to begin incubation. Incubation progresses through game ticks and random checks, so there is no exact guaranteed hatch countdown.
Choose a habitat
Section titled “Choose a habitat”| Breed | Habitat direction |
|---|---|
| Aether | High altitude, above Y=200 |
| Water | Water and suitable aquatic surroundings |
| Fire | Lava and fire-associated blocks |
| Forest | Forest-associated blocks; jungle biomes contribute |
| Ghost | Both below Y=0 and very dark surroundings |
| Ice | Ice and snow-associated surroundings |
| Nether | Nether surroundings and suitable blocks |
| End | An actual Ender Dragon breath cloud overlapping the incubating egg |
Habitats contribute to a breed choice; adding one decorative block does not guarantee an immediate conversion. The egg page gives a practical setup for every breed, and each breed page explains its abilities.
Tame, grow and ride
Section titled “Tame, grow and ride”The installed breeds use fish for taming. Taming is chance-based: a failed attempt can still consume the fish. Feed and care for the animal, and wait until it is eligible for a saddle and riding.
The owner can saddle it, use shears to remove the saddle, and toggle sitting with a bone or the alternate interaction. Riding requires a saddled dragon beyond the hatchling stage. Keep enough space around take-off and landing areas.
Growth is configured at 72,000 ticks, about an hour of ticking time. An unloaded area does not provide a reliable real-time countdown. Injured tamed dragons can consume food to heal, which is a different interaction from breeding.
Breeding and ownership
Section titled “Breeding and ownership”Breeding uses the breed’s accepted items and the server’s reproduction limits. All eight installed breed definitions accept the fish ingredient group. A held item can heal an injured dragon before the breeding interaction becomes available.
Java and Bedrock
Section titled “Java and Bedrock”Use your client’s interact control to start hatching or care for the dragon. Bedrock wing appearance can differ from Java. Dismount before logging out.
