Dragon egg

A dragon egg is the beginning of a companion. All eight breeds come from eggs: prepare the right habitat to influence which dragon hatches. This does not change an adult dragon’s breed.
Getting an egg
Section titled “Getting an egg”You can trade for an egg, receive one from another player, or breed eligible tamed adult dragons with fish. Check any shop listing for its current requirements. The Dragon Mounts egg is a separate item from the vanilla Ender Dragon trophy egg.
Hatch your chosen breed
Section titled “Hatch your chosen breed”- Prepare the habitat below, including a solid block supporting the egg.
- Place the egg. For block and fluid habitats, “nearby” means the 3 × 3 × 3 area centred on the egg, one block in each direction.
- Interact with an empty hand to begin incubation: right-click on Java or use/interact on Bedrock.
- Keep the area loaded. Habitat adaptation happens during incubation, before the final cracked stage. Watch the egg change appearance; incubation uses random checks, not a fixed countdown.
- Keep the chosen habitat in place until hatching, with a safe enclosure ready for the hatchling.
The highest habitat score must be greater than 2. The examples below reach that threshold, but competing habitats can win. Remove competing blocks and fluids instead of relying on a tie.

Aether Dragon
Incubate the egg at Y=201 or higher.
Habitat details
The altitude condition contributes 3 points. Keep competing block and fluid habitats away from the egg.
End Dragon
Let an actual Ender Dragon breath cloud overlap the incubating egg.
Habitat details
The purple dragon-breath area cloud contributes 10 points. A bottled Dragon’s Breath item is not a substitute. Protect yourself and the egg during the encounter.
Fire Dragon
Place at least 3 magma blocks or other fire-habitat blocks immediately around the egg.
Habitat details
Fire, magma and campfires contribute 1 point each. Lava contributes 3 per nearby fluid block. Use a solid support and avoid competing habitats.
Forest Dragon
Arrange at least 6 leaves, saplings, flowers or moss blocks immediately around the egg.
Habitat details
Each matching block contributes 0.5 points. A jungle biome adds 2, so two matching blocks in a jungle also reach 3 points.
Ghost Dragon
Incubate below Y=0, with light level 0, 1 or 2 at the egg.
Habitat details
Both depth and darkness are required together. The combined condition contributes 3 points; depth alone or darkness alone is insufficient.
Ice Dragon
Arrange at least 6 ice or snow-habitat blocks immediately around the egg.
Habitat details
Each matching block contributes 0.5 points. Keep the egg on a solid support and remove competing habitat materials.
Nether Dragon
Incubate in a Nether biome, or surround the egg with at least 6 Nether-habitat blocks.
Habitat details
A Nether biome contributes 3 points. Blocks such as netherrack, soul sand and glowstone contribute 0.5 each. A Nether portal nearby is not itself the condition.
Water Dragon
Place at least 3 water-filled blocks immediately around the egg, keeping its support solid.
Habitat details
Each matching fluid block contributes 1 point. Six aquatic-habitat blocks, such as prismarine or coral, also reach 3 points at 0.5 each.
After hatching
Section titled “After hatching”Use fish for taming, then let your companion grow before saddling and riding. Read the dragon care guide for feeding, growth, ownership and breeding.
Where to get it
- BreedingTamed adult dragons
Breed eligible tamed adult dragons using fish. Eggs can also be traded or gifted by other players.
- ConversionEnder Dragon trophy egg
Interact with a placed vanilla Dragon Egg to turn it into an incubating End Dragon egg. This conversion is enabled on this server; habitat adaptation can then change its breed.
